Acrylic & Gold Leaf on Canvas
(completed June, 2020)
It was hard to complete this commission. It was hard to channel calm and peace for a commission when I felt differently.
This is when the 'why' and 'for whom' becomes far more important than the ‘what’.
I painted this for a warrior. A social justice loud mouth. For as long as I have known her, she has been told to shut up and sit down. She doesn’t shut up. And she doesn’t sit down until we all do.
Aanchal I is Shakti, she is shelter, she is the protection of mamma tiger, a place to regroup, to restore, to recharge, to reset. Because to fight, we must rest, reflect.
I was first able to touch this canvas after a particularly intense kundalini session. I knew exactly where I wanted to go after a dusk session.
For my beloved forever friend - you had me at your english lit essay recasting Eve, shared by your horrified former boyfriend. Aanchal I comes from my awe, my love, and my undying respect for you.
