Mixed Media on Canvas
This series of miniatures is a meditation on memory.
As memories grow and change., things I used to see as fixed memories, flow to take on new context, new life, new perspective. Sitting with this change, letting go of the certainty of past conclusions has been a challenge.
The colors in this piece came from a journey through my mother’s bright silk saris, I found myself touching the fabric, giggling at the terrific shade my mother threw on my paltry sari collection, all monochrome or blackand white.
The vibrant colors of this piece are inspired by the Indian subcontinent. Perhaps you don't notice it when you're born in the subcontinent (I certainly don’t) but I am always told it is the first impressions visitors have - the bright colors. The vibrance permeates smell, touch, texture, sound.Over stimulus, sometimes.
I've worked to incorporate movement and vitality in this painting about reminisces. I'm often told that my paintings are surprisingly kinetic in person; pictures on social media don't really do the little movements justice.
