Ajna I Triptych
12" x 10”
Acrylic and Rose Gold Leaf on Canvas.
Lately, I have playing with multiple smaller canvases coming together like a jigsaw. This piece is three canvases, one 12" x 4" canvas, and twin 6" x 6" canvases. Fitting together canvases to make a complete image has been a bit of a fascination lately, perhaps because my own identity and reality seem so disjointed lately.
When I painted this, my desire was to tap in to my mind, my intuition, my inner wisdom, seated at the sixth chakra, Ajna Chakra. This piece forms a little triptych and it is meant to be an object of spirituality and strength.
I have been pondering with the concept of our shadow and light selves. As a result, my paintings are very purposefully designed to look different in the light and in the dark. Depending on the time of day, the source of light, the angle of the light, various elements appear and disappear on the canvas. The reality is that all those elements always exist on the canvas, but only show up based on perspective. As I meditate on my intuition, it helps dissolve binary boundaries. For the colours of this piece, I relied on the rich blues of the Ajna Chakra, but couldn’t resist travelling into the realm of the throat and heart chakras.
