Aanchal (lap) is a term used to describe a mother’s protection. Like a dhoop/chaon (sun/shade) sari, she integrates light and shadow, past and present. No judgement, just loving acceptance. The lotus, symbolic of purity, transforms adversity into beauty, into light.
Painting for someone you adore is delightful. This commission for my forever friend is laden with little Easter eggs, in our shared grammar.
